Get a case with a lip over the screen, it will prevent the screen from being scratch. I have a Spigen for my Nexus 5, it might be a bit bulky but it saved it numerous times.

Definitely. I'm getting one soon, my wife just got hers two days ago. They are slippery buggers. I always keep mine in cases and now I'm ebaying my iPhone 5 and it is literally pristine.

Yes, I was going to put my order in for the Neo Metal Hybrid, but the review said it can negatively affect reception so I backed away. I think I'm going to get the Ultra Hybrid now. Spigen makes nice cases.

I have an Ultra Hybrid on my Nexus 5. And I don't know why but the clear plastic has some opaque "spots" on it. I don't know if it happens with all their hybrid cases or if it's just mine or something I did. And I can't get rid of it. It looks just like the spots you sometime find on cars headlights.
Otherwise the case is great. I don't have a single scratch on the screen (and I never installed the screen protector that was shipped with the case). It prevents the phone from slipping, and the corners are well protected. I will definitely buy my next phone case from them.

I had an Otter Box, but now I only have an Apple leather case. I chipped my iPhone 3 and ever since, I've been super careful!

My mom had an otter box on her 5, by the end of the two years it didn't even look a day old. She'll likely be getting the otter box for her plus.

I've dropped my lumia 1520 multiple times, it has an otterbox and not one scratch or ding.
